The training of glove-making artisans is still today generally handed down from father to son and the workshop remains the best forge for learning the techniques suitable for manufacturing gloves. Here we will limit ourselves to illustrating some manufacturing techniques which allow us to understand how each stage of manufacturing is extremely laborious and how much care and attention the glove-making craftsmen must place in order to create a glove.
The creation of a glove is represented by multiple steps: the choice of leather, the colouring, the design of the model, the application of refined accessories, up to the final packaging. This happens thanks to the collaboration of master craftsmen, who carry out their job with skill and passion.
→ PHASE I: The selection of leathers is the most delicate phase. The raw hides are chosen, scrupulously selected and followed in the various transformation steps up to the particular dyeing process. The leather will have to get to the next stage in full softness and shine.
→ PHASE II: The leather is cut by hand on the ancient wooden benches thanks to the use of a precision ruler and tailoring scissors. The cutter therefore represents a fundamental figure in the production cycle.
→ PHASE III: This is the so-called “breakdown” phase which is used to give the glove the right fit. The glove is pulled, an operation that shows the dexterity and rituality of the gestures of those who carry out this trade.
→ PHASE IV: In the shearing phase, the glove is “split” under manual presses on the original templates, i.e. on the shapes corresponding to a given size and model. The glove literally begins to come to life.
→ PHASE V: It is the phase in which the model and style are chosen and in which space is given to the imagination of an inventive team who are dedicated to choosing the right accessory or a particular embroidery to be placed on the glove. The basis is the design performed by the stylist, who offers a choice of colors and finishes in step with the times.
→ PHASE VI: The glove acquires its real appearance in the stitching phase. During this step, extreme care and precision are required in order to create a quality product.
