After drying, beating, grinding and shaking, the finishing operations are carried out to improve the appearance and characteristics of the leather, making the uniform color and enhancing natural beauty. In this phase, operations are carried out to eliminate small imperfections and to make perfect the product characteristics of the leather such as brilliance level, solidity, gloss and resistance to dirt, water and grease.
Leather finishing can be done with different techniques:
- spray finishing is one of the most used techniques in tannery as it allows to define different characteristics of the skin. Machines used in this stage are large booths with guns that spray very fine drops on the surface of the skin that, thanks to circulatory movements at high speed, change color and characteristics of the skin.
- film finishing is done when the leather needs to be painted. This kind of finishing is achieved with a machine equipped with a carpet under that a liquid film dyes the leather evenly.
- pad finishing is one of the oldest finishing methods. This technique requires the leather to be spread on a chipboard bench and then padded with one pad sponge.
After finishing, leathers are ironed, trimmed, subjected to physical-chemical tests, checked and measured. Final result is a perfect leather for different applications.
