During an interview with UNIC, Il Sole 24 ore defined tannery as ‘’a sector that has given life to made in Italy and is its symbol’’, underlining its role of excellence in the supply chain of fashion and luxury. After all, Italy is the leading producer of leathers in Europe with 65% of the world production as well as the leading exporter in the world. Furthermore, is also Italian the worldwide record for the production and export of leather for the luxury industry.
These data have made tannery a symbol of Made in Italy, also thanks to its more green soul. The world of leather is changing rapidly, becoming more and more eco- sustainable. This i salso demonstrated by the sustainability report published every year, for the past 18 years , by UNIC- Italian Tanneries.
The Union of Italian tanneries has , in fact revealed that the companies of our country every year improving its performance of resource use, recycling and emissions.’’ No industry-comments- has the same levels of certification as the Italian tanning, which moreover was born as a circular supply chain because we process waste from the food industry “. Il Sole 24 Ore underlines how the world of tanning is able to regenerate 75% of its waste processing, confirming itself more and more circular. This is why for UNIC, the Italian tanning industry is a symbol of eco-sustainable made in Italy.
Furthermore, the attention for the environment, man and the territory has undergone a strong acceleration during the pandemic. In recent times, entrepreneurs are devoting themselves more to research, investing from 4 to 10% of its sales proceeds.
